“How absurd to think that black-and-white photographs from 100 years ago would produce colors in the same way that digital photographs do now. And yet, this is exactly what AI-assisted colorization does.”

Artificial can be used as an extremely helpful tool in the fields of science and humanities. I chose my first quote because it highlights the significance of Ai and what it can do by being able to restore old black and white images, and even produce colors for that image. However, when combining artificial intelligence and image manipulation, artificial intelligence could be easily abused to produce new “art”, but can art created by AI still evoke the same sentiments as an original work by a real person? Also if art made by Ai can be considered art, what will this mean for artists who must work for hours to create something Ai can create in mere seconds. I think that there should be some restrictions over what Ai can and cannot do in order to preserve the role of artists within our society.
Another problem with combining artificial intelligence and image manipulation is the potential for problems like people abusing ai’s capabilities for ill intent like creating deep fakes, or fake content and videos. With this technology it will become almost impossible to tell what is real or fake online and as a result, I think that misinformation will become more prevalent.
“But it illustrates the problem of art and history becoming toys in the sandboxes of scientists with no training in the humanities.”

I chose my second quote because it highlights the importance that humanities serves when working with such a powerful piece of technology. There should be limits put on this type of technology and as such, people with a strong understanding of both the science and humanities would be a good fit for creating these limits. In conclusion, artificial intelligence has become widespread and commonly used within our society. While there are many ways Ai can benefit our society, there are just as many ways that it can harm our society as well. The implementation of guidelines for how Ai should be considered and put in place.
