My Map

Some possibilities of georectified maps could be that they could be used in environmental studies to study the amount of land that has sunk or been uncovered overtime. This tool could also be used in history to determine when certain conflicts happened, and how different provinces/regions were thought of/who had control of them. It could also reveal certain landmarks that were destroyed, or no longer exist.

The problems that I saw in my model were that I used a map in a different language, so I could only find a few points to compare, and this led to the map being overlaid very well at the top, but overlaid a little too large on the bottom. I think another problem with georeferencing as a whole is that certain data is bound to be inaccurate or distorted, and this can lead to inaccuracy within the studies of these overlaid maps.

This should not be used for areas where accuracy is very crucial, for example certain geography studies could use this data, but if you were trying to find very specific data, and the map was very old or not photographed clearly, it could actually be damaging to the study to use this technique.

I think that this process really changed my understanding of the spatial DH projects I explored earlier because it really showed me just how much work they put into these overlaid maps. I guess I thought it might be as simple as dragging an old map over a new map, but this process really showed how accurate you had to be with your two points that connect the two maps, and also how you need quite a few points to compare between the maps, so that the angle and size of the map can be accurate.
