Week 5: Reflective Post

The map I rectified was the map of Greece. This is the link to it if you want to go check it out!

Since the activity was a lot more engaging than simply looking at the map, I was able to obtain further detailed geographic information and higher interest in them. In addition, I was able to visualize the change between the current geographical structure of my map versus the past map. I believe the next step I can take would be to look into the details of the reason behind the geographical change. In addition, I could conduct spatial analysis to identify patterns, trends, and relationships within the geographic data.

I believe that there are several problems and consequences we should consider. For example, one of the main problems is the quality of the reference data used. Inaccurate or outdated reference data can lead to misalignment and distortions across a map. Another problem includes legal considerations. Using reference data without the appropriate permissions or considering ethical and legal implications may pose challenges due to copyright laws.

Research questions that this method would not be appropriate may involve some social or cultural research questions that might not have a strong geographic component. For instance, studies focusing solely on language, beliefs, or historical events without a clear spatial context might not require georeferencing.

I thought that in this activity, I got a similar conclusion that how all of these activity encourages us to pay closer attention to what we are analyzing. It is further engaging compared to just observing the objects and I believe that this is a huge benefit the DH project is bringing us.
