One of our shared goals is to use the tools, such as ArcGIS, we learned throughout the course to explore the division between private and public schools and its impact on students at Carleton College. This will allow us to see how geographic and socioeconomic factors, such as going to a private or public school, play a role in college admissions for a prestigious school like Carleton. Furthermore, we will be able to see how Carleton has shifted over time and whether we are trending towards a more inclusive and equitable environment or whether we have stayed mostly the same.
As a group, we value collaboration and teamwork. We want to make sure everyone is able to voice their ideas and contribute to the final product. We also want to have clear communication between team members throughout the project. We expect everyone to have a positive attitude and to contribute equally. In order to communicate effectively, we will frequently check in with each other in class and over text. If we have a disagreement, we will talk through our issues.
Ethan is in the process of scraping the high school data from the zoobooks, as he has a lot of technical experience. Outside of the data scraping, we plan to work on everything as a group. Jenna is responsible for calling meetings, as she has experience leading groups and has strong organization skills. Margo and Kenton will work on analyzing the data, as they have taken lots of quantitative classes in statistics and math. All of us are trying to improve our presentation skills as we go through this process, but we are all excited to have this opportunity to improve on them!
