Lab Assignment 1

  1. How easy/hard was it?
  • When I first started this assignment I found it a bit difficult since I did not know what any of the functions did but after I watched a tutorial I figure out what all the basic functions did.

2. What elements particularly bogged you down?

  • One of the tools, the sketch button, was not working correctly. When I first started creating my figure I tried to draw out the shapes of the ipad with the sketch but I was not able to extrude it, so instead I just made the shapes of the ipad with the shapes that were already given.

3. What compromises did you have to make?

  • When I was first deciding what object to make I was still deciding between several options, but I wasn’t sure how to create and show an object with texture, like tissue paper, so I decided on doing an ipad which doesnt have that much variation in texture.

4. What humanistic uses can you envision for this tool in the areas of research or teaching?

  • I think that this would be a great tool for teachers to show how an object made up of a lot of smaller parts, like an engine, works and how each of the parts work and fit in with each other. This is also a great tool for students who are interested in design.

Tip.

  • One thing that I learned while working on this project was that there are a lot more useful tools when you click on the arrows below each of the tools.

  1. Awesome IPad! I almost thought it was the real thing. I’m curious about how you were able to place the letters on the back of the iPad, I feel that took a lot of maneuvering to get it on the back. A common theme I’m sensing is that Fusion 360 is pretty experience-heavy. So, people with less experience, such as us, have a hard time trying to figure out what to even do with this software. Regardless of that, you did such an amazing job!

  2. That’s a really good iPad, especially for a first try with Fusion360. I’m really impressed with how you got the Apple logo and “iPad” on the model, seeing as I couldn’t figure that out. I feel like you did a really good job only using the extrude button and I empathize with your struggles using the sketch tool. Overall, I think you did an amazing job for your first time, and I think you could do some really cool stuff with more experience!
