WEB MAPPING USING ARCGIS – Hadi

Reflection

During the web mapping process with ArcGIS, I had fun and obstacles to overcome. The process at first was pretty straightforward and I was enjoying the process of web mapping. The location that was being mapped for this lab was Carleton College specifically the building I have been to like my dorm, classes, and other buildings that I usually go to during a week in Carleton.

The Process started with extracting data related to the buildings such as latitude, longitude, and images amongst other information that could help in making the mapping more informative where users can learn from it. After getting the data, I had to create a later for the map as well as adding Digitizing Features from Scratch such as points, lines, and areas which I had to use to distinguish the building I selected for this lab from the rest of the map. Lastly, I had to create a web app for it and share it.

Some challenges I faced during this process of web mapping, were the uploading of Images of the building and the pop-up configuration. My idea was that when you hover over the building, you would be provided with details about the building as well as an image of the building. Fortunately, after messing around for a long period, I found how to use the tools ArcGIS had and made it possible to provide that option for the users.

Overall, I enjoyed the interaction I had with ArcGIS for web mapping and saw its potential for other uses and how informative it can be visually.
