Exploring the Network of Thrones

I chose to explore the Network of Thrones for this project, although I have never seen the TV shows or read the book I am familiar with the characters and the plot of the story. I thought this analysis was extremely interesting because they first display the seasons 1-8 network analysis and then break it down by each season. Because they did this I was able to track how the relationships changed between the characters over the course of the 8 seasons. Game of Thrones, like any good fantasy story, is complex and interwoven, this network analysis makes it clear who the story was following. For example, it was interesting to see Tyrion’s node grow in size and connections between seasons 5-7, indicating that he grew in importance and relevance. The relationships are grouped by what I assume are families (again I have never seen or read the story), each family has their own colors, with each member having a node, and lines connect the nodes to show interpersonal relationships. The project does not have an interactive feature that I could find, this would have been useful to emphasize relationships. I thought it was interesting that the season 8 network analysis consisted of mainly one color and family, I guess I will have to watch the show to understand why that is.
