Lab Assignment 1: 3D Modeling

Overall, I think that this experience was very time-consuming but rewarding. I chose to create my water bottle because I remembered it by memory and because I thought it would be easy to make. I think my assessment was correct overall, but there were some challenges along the way. I struggled with all the different tools and controls when I started this assignment. After using my mouse and watching a few tutorials, I figured out how to get Fusion360 to do what I wanted. Initially, the sketch tool wasn’t working the way I intended. Additionally, I couldn’t initially put a bottom to my water bottle, so I restarted from scratch. I think the fresh start and the information I gained from the videos I watched helped make a massive difference in the time it took to get a sketch going. My water bottle is a bit more ornate in real life than in my model, and I had to compromise on things like a rubber band and a straw because I didn’t have enough time and wasn’t exactly sure how to do them. Also, I couldn’t put the scratches on my water bottle on my model because I wasn’t sure how to add textures to my model. I can see this tool being used by teachers to teach students how certain products are made and how they work. I can also see this tool being used for designing public spaces like parks. A tool that helped me is that if you’re making a cylindrical object, instead of the extrude tool, use the revolve tool around an axis. Another tip, and I think the more important one, is just looking things up on Google and YouTube. Someone has likely had that same issue for anything you’re trying to figure out, so you should access that knowledge and get your problem solved.

  1. I agree I’m definetly using resources like Google or a YouTube video in the future because as much as I had a fun time playing with the program independently if I was trying to make my model more accurate and contain certain details I guarantee I would need some more advice! Hopefully we will improve 🙂
