Here is the link to my map. Being able to create georectified maps can allow for many possibilities and discoveries. Some of the ways that a georectified map could be used for, depending on the type of maps that you use, could be for navigation. Since the different maps offer different information about the surrounding land and terrain, creating a georectified map could help in overlaying the important information like where certain mountain ranges are, or the different air temperatures in different areas. Once you find a map that is suitable to your needs, a possible next step could be to make that map available to the public for other people to use. Some people might be doing research on specific areas of the world and require specific information on those areas so sharing that information with a team would be helpful.
Some possible problems with georeferencing that should be considered is the quality of maps that you are using. If a map with poor quality data is used, it could give the user misinformation about the geographic areas. Since terrain and landmarks can often change either due to human activities, natural causes or other factors, it is important to make sure that the maps that are used are updated with accurate data.
Georeferencing should not be used for areas that change frequently such as urban areas or landforms such as volcanoes. Since these areas are often changing, georeferencing would likely struggle to keep up with these rapid changes. It would also be difficult for georeferencing to be used in historical studies because there is likely not as much information about the landscape during those times, so georeferencing would potentially be more harmful due to its inaccuracy.
After creating a georectified map I reflected on the past spatial DH project we have done, specifically the first 3d modeling project that I did. I was amazed at how 3d and spatial technology could be used, and the many different applications where it is relevant. I think that these technologies will prove to be useful in the near future.
