Using data from five buildings I visited on campus, I created an ArcGIS map. For each location, I included the function, days a week visited, latitude, longitude, and address. I then uploaded the data as a csv file to create the map. I chose to use dot size to represent how often I visited different buildings. The more times a week I visit a building, the bigger the dot is. After outlining the buildings, I also added titles to the buildings so you can see the name when you click on it.
I think web mapping is a very powerful tool for DH work. It allows you to analyze spatial information visually, which can help to show patterns and better understand the data. It can also allow you to tell a story. ArcGIS in particular allows you to upload data and create different layers to illustrate the data. The online version makes it easy for users to create and share maps. It allows web mapping to be more accessible.
