For this weeks lab I used a map of Carleton College and made a data point of my 5 most visited places on campus. The buildings that I chose were James, Anderson, the Rec Center, CMC, and Gould Library. Web mapping is an important tool that has many uses in variety of different fields. Learning how to manipulate maps and plot specific points with data of your choosing could be an invaluable skill. Web mapping can be used in digital humanities by allowing us to measure and map data or history, for example number of car crashes in a certain area and the amount that were caused due to intoxicated drivers. ArcGis is a powerful platform that anyone can access. It was fairly easy to download data and upload it to an ArcGis map. Websites like ArcGis allows a greater range of possibilities and combining online technology with history or data.
