When I was making this map, I was thinking about the best way to organize the data, even with my small data set. I thought that color-coordinating the buildings by type made the most amount of sense because that was where the building had the highest amount of overlap and it makes it clear when just looking at the map which buildings can be grouped together. Through this project, I saw the amount of potential that web mapping has. It seems like a really good way to show information about an area while overlaying important and interesting information that accompanies it, and I can especially see how well it would scale up to very large data sets. The ArcGIS platform in particular seems helpful in this regard because you can use fields that are imported in the data so that each marker is fully customized without having to do them all individually.
Lab Assignment Week 5
Your map is fascinating, as is how you organized your data. Using color where each type has buildings, you have created a map that is aesthetically pleasing and functionally much better. On the other hand, you have selected an approach about your own best and optimal way of information presentation that viewers always find straightforward and easily comprehendible. Your observations on the potential of web mapping are highly motivating. In reality, the possibility of superimposing critical information onto geographic maps opens up a broad spectrum of ways to communicate effectively. This is excellent work overall.
I agree that web mapping has a lot of potential in the digital humanities field! It could be used in a variety of different disciplines, especially ones that have a lot of geospatial data that needs to be organized and visualized. ArcGIS also makes achieving that goal pretty easy since the platform is more intuitive than some others out there!
