The lab for this week is to make a map of the places we visit most each week. I tried something exciting and made my heat map based on the frequency of visits. My data consists of the place’s name, coordinates, function, and the number of visits. Making the outlines was difficult, but I thought a heat map would be interesting to visualize how much I visit places on average.
This lab helped me understand the weeds of GIS and spatial data visualization and the choices that go into it. I can see this tool being used for many future map data visualization projects and how this is a powerful tool for GIS. This data reveals how I spend time but leaves out some context, including how much I return to my dorm. This is a powerful tool, and I want to use it more.
