Look at my beautiful graph! I played around with these websites for way too long but learned a lot about these tools. I used a website similar to this for my last job when my boss wanted me to make a graph of a map of the location of where all the students that came to our program came from within the United States and China. I chose this fun line graph since I felt it displayed the information we had the best on a time scale. Also, this website allows for animation and interactivity from the user, which I always enjoy. I changed the size of the arrows and the colors, as well as the animation settings, to make the graph more readable with the amount of data that I was using. I think making visualizations interesting and interactive is important for the average person to interpret lots of data. As aforementioned, I love when I can integrate with data visualizations online (such as on political websites that compare voting data). In my graph, you can select which names you want to see in the graph, and I think simple additions like that can make the data more digestible and statistical reasoning easier to access.
Lab Assignment Week 6
I really love these graphs because they kind of force your eye to follow the data in a way that makes sense. Otherwise, all the data can get really overwhelming! I’m also glad you mentioned politics in your blog post because I hadn’t even really considered that while doing the readings. In the US especially, I think there’s a big political binary with two parties, and data visualization within the news definitely contributes to that.
