Zoobook Final Project Data Visualization

Ethan, Jenna, Kenton, and Margo

One of our final project data visualizations is a bar chart that updates every year on the top 10 high schools with the most incoming Carleton students from the digital tool Flourish. This pattern is very interesting, as we can further explore where these top high schools are from and whether they are private or public schools. Our source is our data set that we web scraped from the Carleton Zoobook. We cleaned and filtered the data set manually by fixing the spacing and renaming obviously misspelled high schools. We used R to reformat the data slightly so it was in the form that Flourish wanted. We created one row for each high school, and a column for each year containing the count of each high school that year. To make the style of this visualization very clear, we widened the spaces, so we could read the high school names on the interactive bar chart. We also included a meaningful title and clear and legible labels. Below is our visualization.
