I focused my midterm project on text analysis of Confucius Analects. It accounts for the word frequency of the text.

  1. I enjoyed looking at your project as the first thing that came to my mind after looking at your website was “Wow!”. I liked the theme of your website such as the use of colors such as yellow and brown, the font selection, and the way you bordered the different text blocks and headers. In addition, the fact that you analyzed a text for word frequency, trends, collocation, or another text analysis metric was cool as not many people chose that for their presentation. One question that came up with your website was if there was an error with the significance of the project section. It seemed like there was no content on that section so I was wondering if there was an error of you simply forgot to add it. However, other than that perfect project!

  2. Upon opening up your project I was really impressed. It seemed liked you put a lot of time and effort into the aesthetics of your website and it looks great. It’s really cool how you were able to use skills from outside of class, using Java to clean up the data, to help you create this project. The word cloud was a good choice to represent the data as it made the points in the text simple and clear.

  3. Hi Mai! This is a really succinct visual summary of the Confucian Analects! Thank you for going the extra mile to filter out the stopwords, which made the word cloud a rather accurate representation of what the text primarily conveyed. I was very impressed that you transferred some of your coding skills from a CS class to this project. It was interesting to compare what your own program yielded with a production of Voyant Tools and see how these different digital approaches converged. As a viewer, I found it extremely convenient to get the themes of Confucious’s teachings off of the word cloud without having to read the whole text.
